Cheetahs

Cheetahs, Aren't they special ? Did you know Cheetahs are the fastest land animal on earth. Cheetahs are mammals. They were built to run amazingly fast. They are members of the big cat family.

Cheetahs have a thin solid body with a small head. They have long strong legs and a long flexible back. Unlike all other cats, cheetahs have blunt claws that cannot be pulled back into their paws. The claws act like spikes on rugby shoes. They help the cheetah to run faster.
Cheetahs are carnivores. Carnivores are meat eater. Cheetahs stalk their prey for some time. Then leaps out and catches the prey. Cheetahs bite their prey on the neck to kill it. Cheetahs are hunted by poachers. Poachers often stuff the cheetah and makes coats/rugs with its skin/fur. When a tiger finds the cheetahs cubs they often kill them.  Selling cheetah fur is now illegal.
Cheetahs live in many countries in Africa and also in Iran. In 1900 there were approximately 135,000 cheetahs in the world. Today there may be as few as 15,000. In Iran there are only about 100 cheetahs left.

Cheetahs are smart, fast and awesome. Cheetahs are unique animals and if we can care of them we can have more of them.
