Picking Harekeke ( Flax )

Last week Room 19 had a amazing opportunities to walk down to Omaru Creek to pick harekeke ( flax ) . Everyone burst with excitement as we leave

We forged our way to Omaru Creek and unfold the tarps to sit on. We sat down and wait patiently for the rulers to arrive. Finally we all had a ruler.

Ms Tito explained to us the kaupapa (protocols/rules) of using harekeke ( flax ). She explained which part of the harekeke (flax) can we use and which part we can't

use. She also explained that we can't cut harekeke (flax) at night or in rainy times.

We got a pocket knife and me and my partner Lisia went to cut our flax where no one ever cut theirs. I nearly fell down the river when I went to cut my flax downwards.

After that Ms Tito whistled for all of us to come and start preparing for plating the putiputi ( flower ). She told us to slice of the red lining on both sides. I wanted to weave it but I had to go to Pt England Band.

I enjoyed cuting the harekeke and preparing it.

Tuakana/Teina

Tuakana/ Teina ( Older brother/sister or younger brother/sister)

Every Tuesday Room 19 and Room 9 goes to the library to read to each other. 

We read to each other to let the seniors teach the juniors to develop their leadership as part of the Pt England Way. Our juniors learn better as our seniors read to them or the juniors reads to us.

My partner is Taraina. He loves to read books about Dinosaurs so I read to him and of course he read to me. We read Harry and the Bucketful of Dinosaurs. He chose to read and sing, " The Wheels on the Bus. " He burst with excitement when I showed the book to him so we sang the the song and joined the adventure of the book. I just love it when he reads to me.


I enjoy reading with my partner . Can't wait till next week.

School Picnic

On Friday it was the picnic. I was jumping up and down with excitement. I quickly rushed to class and waited for Ms Tito's instruction's. After she marked the roll. We went to the hall. 


Finally We got to the beach. I quickly jumped onto the sand but Wakatere threw sand at me. I got sand and chucked it at her. I had fun playing with the sand.


When it was swimming time I got into my togs and went canon bawling into the water. I got drowned by Calvin. But I was still good.


I enjoyed the picnic.It was fun.
